Working in collaboration with the NET+ Splunk Service Advisory Board, Splunk, and Carahsoft, Internet2 NET+ Cloud Services has added Splunk Cloud to the NET+ Splunk Program.
The group worked together on terms specifically negotiated for the research and education community. The cloud bundles and pricing are unique to the program with a set discount only available through the NET+ Splunk Program. By moving to Splunk Cloud, campuses can allocate the time they spend operating their Splunk infrastructure to more value-added services for their institutions.

I’ve been involved in the NET+ Splunk program since the start and knew we needed to get this done, so the higher education community could get the benefits of moving to Splunk Cloud,” said Jon Allen, CIO and CISO at Baylor University. “We explained to Splunk the challenges we face to secure our campuses and were able to address them as part of the update.”
“We received substantial feedback from the community over the past two years about the importance of the program and the engagement with Splunk,” he continued, “ so this update demonstrates the power of working together.”
Mary Lou Prevost, Splunk’s group vice president, State, Local Government, and Education, echoed these sentiments. “Splunk is deeply committed to higher education and is a proud and active member of the Internet2 community,” Prevost said. “With the addition of Splunk Cloud with pre-negotiated pricing and contract terms, the time to adoption is greatly reduced, so institutions can begin to realize the value of Splunk Cloud and turn their efforts to important value-added activities. We also encourage the Internet2 members to engage in the unique education, workshop, and use case offerings provided to our higher education clients.”
Here are the important benefits to the community:
- NET+ Splunk community engagement around transitioning from on-prem Splunk to Splunk Cloud by sharing effective practices and lessons learned
- NET+ Splunk Cloud contract inclusive of FERPA with the best terms for the community
- NET+ Splunk Cloud pricing unique to the program with a set discount only available through the NET+ Splunk program
- An easy button for your campus procurement!
- Since Splunk Cloud uses AWS, it will take advantage of Internet2 Network peering with AWS for higher network performance, which can help campuses move their data to Splunk Cloud.

We’re developing a webinar to update the community in more detail and hear from a campus about the transition to Splunk Cloud. Registration information and other details will be provided in early 2023. I’m looking forward to seeing you at future NET+ Splunk events.
