Provides private connectivity with dedicated access at peering sites nationwide.
Rapid Private Interconnect (RPI) provides Internet2 connectors with dedicated access to any vendor-provided service at four national peering locations.
RPI provides a low-cost option to regional networks that they can use for themselves or extend to one of their members. RPI allows dedicated, private, regional-controlled access to any vendor-provided services offered at one or more of the peering exchanges. This could serve as a primary connection or redundant connection to the service.
Use cases include:
A regional provided a direct connection to a cloud provider for one of their university members as the member migrated their ERP system from a campus-based system to the cloud;
A regional connected to a gaming internet exchange to provide access to e-sports for their members; and
A university required resiliency to reach multiple AWS Direct Connect ports.
Service Configurations
The RPI service is available today using a manual configuration, and we have future plans to make the configuration available using the Cloud Connect Portal. The RPI service is being offered today at 10G with options for RPI 100G ports available as needed.
