Internet2’s Chris Wilkinson Appointed to Global Network Advancement Group Leadership Team

Chris Wilkinson, senior director of network infrastructure and operations at Internet2, was recently appointed to the Global Network Advancement Group (GNA-G) Leadership Team. He will serve a four-year term.

GNA-G is an international community of research and education (R&E) networking professionals, including researchers, regional and national R&E networks (NRENs), and global exchange point operators. They work together to develop a common infrastructure that enables data-intensive collaborations worldwide.

Wilkinson has been active in the GNA-G community since 2020 and brings 25 years of professional experience supporting R&E. For the past decade, he has played key roles with the Internet2 Network Services Division.

Currently, Wilkinson leads the network infrastructure and operations team in efforts to enhance Internet2’s network-delivered services and global connectivity. His work includes collaboration with institutions across the U.S. and internationally to promote novel use of R&E infrastructure and support scientific research. Among those efforts, he serves as the co-chair of the North America – Research and Education Exchange and is a co-principal investigator for the NSF-funded NEA3R initiative.

Wilkinson joins eight other members of the GNA-G Leadership Team:

  • Ivana Golub (PSNC, Croatia/Poland)
  • Renier Van Heerden (SANREN, South Africa)
  • Brenna Meade (Indiana University, USA)
  • Alex Moura (KAUST, Saudi Arabia)
  • Marcos Schwarz (RNP, Brazil)
  • David Wilde (AARnet, Australia)

Together, the team steers the long-term development of the global R&E network infrastructure. They also oversee a dozen active GNA-G working groups spanning areas like network automation, routing, security, science workflows, and resilient interconnectivity among NRENs.
