One of the key components of the I2CLC Initiative is the Internet2 Emerging Leaders (I2EL) Scholarship program. We are now accepting applications for the I2EL Scholarship to attend TechEX25, Dec. 8-12 in Denver, Colo. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 5 p.m. PT.
The scholarship provides resources to support rising talent affiliated with a nonprofit organization that is an active participant within the R&E community. Individuals who meet the requirements for the scholarship can self-nominate or be nominated by a fellow colleague.
The I2EL Scholarship program will be a key part of the Internet2’s anchor events, Community Exchange and Technology Exchange, with the inaugural recipients receiving scholarships for TechEX25. A few key aspects of the I2EL Scholarship program are designed to ensure that scholarship recipients have the support they need to navigate and embrace these events.
One element is a pre-conference prep call, where all awardees will connect with other recipients and designated Internet2 staff. This pre-conference session will allow participants to ask questions, clarify expectations, and start building relationships with their peers before arriving at the conference.
However, the scholarship program not only connects recipients with peers, but it also facilitates key networking opportunities with community leaders. The program arranges several shared meals throughout the week at CommEX and TechEX, offering an informal setting for recipients to engage with multidisciplinary IT and R&E professionals.
The gatherings create a space for open dialogue and hallway conversations on topics ranging from career advice and using new technologies to solving institutional challenges. These conversations leave a lasting impact, extending learning and networking far beyond the conference itself.
The I2EL Scholarship program provides an invaluable opportunity for all individuals to engage with the R&E community at a high level. Through the strategic and thoughtful planning of the I2CLC Steering Committee, it’s clear that this program will not only expand access to key resources but also foster an environment of growth, learning, and mutual support.
