The Internet2 Community Anchor Program (CAP) distance learning scholarship program gives K-12 teachers and school librarians free, one-on-one distance learning programs for their classes through the Center for Interactive Learning and Collaboration (CILC).

Any teacher or school librarian from a K-12 school that is connected to Internet2 via a state or regional research and education network can apply to use the scholarship to pay for a one-on-one distance learning class from the CILC. We will independently verify your school’s connection; you don’t have to know your school’s internet provider to apply. Approximately 50% of K-12 schools in the United States connect to Internet2 via one of 46 state and regional research and education networks.

When you apply, you can choose from any of the over 2,000 professionally-delivered programs the CILC offers from content providers all over the world. All of the programs have been evaluated by teachers and can be sorted by topic or by recommendation.

Students can participate in experiences like:

• Dissecting a sheep’s brain (brain included!) to sharpen observation and analysis skills with experts from Adventures In Medicine & Science (AIMS) Program of Saint Louis University;
• Watch seals Onyx and Chloe from the Alaska Zoo’s underwater viewing area to learn how they thrive in the arctic waters; 
• Collaborate in a cross-cultural mini-concert using self-made Latin American percussion instruments; or 
• Learn about Aztec art, myths, and writing systems from the Cleveland Museum of Art, without ever leaving their classroom.

The scholarship application is still open, and the last day to submit an application is Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024. CAP will review applications, verify eligibility, and award scholarships and scholarship recipients will be chosen at Internet2’s sole discretion. The winners will be announced in early March. Once classrooms have completed their CILC program, CAP may survey or interview teachers to learn about their experiences and share their stories via a series of social media or blog posts.

Scholarship Criteria

• Applicants must complete a scholarship application form.
• As part of the application, applicants will select a distance learning class at the Center for Interactive Learning and Collaboration website.
• The applicant’s school must be connected to the Internet2 network via their state or regional research and education network. **We understand that teachers may not know their school district’s internet provider, so we will independently verify whether applicants are from connected networks.** If you are not sure, apply anyway!
• Applicants must agree to allow CAP to use their name and school name in promotional material and must agree to, if invited, work with CAP on a follow-up story or blog post.

Deadline

The last day to submit a scholarship application is Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024. Scholarship winners will be notified and announced in March 2024.
