The CLASS Advanced Fall 2023 session will kick off on October 16. If you help support researchers on the cloud, want to learn more about building cloud-native solutions, or are simply looking to advance your cloud skills, the CLASS Advanced program will equip you with hands-on experience to tackle real-world challenges that are specific to research and higher education (R&E).

Join Us for CLASS Advanced

The program begins on October 16, and the cost to participate starts at $1,875. Reserve your space today!

In the first week of the program, participants will learn advanced cloud skills from Sujee Maniyam, a big data expert. In the second week of the program, participants can then apply those skills to relevant projects. Participants are invited to bring their own “challenges” to the class. Some R&E-related projects that you might work on include:

  • FinOps: Monitoring and controlling the cost of cloud computing and data. The building of the tools, such as dashboards, to simplify and optimize cost is a large part of the practice of FinOps. In addition, FinOps is an important tool for interfacing with stakeholders and other support staff.
  • Networking Build Blocks: Troubleshooting connectivity in the cloud, routing tables, security groups/nACL/firewalls, IaC to build out new accounts/base network
  • Machine Learning Services: Deploying AWS Sagemaker, data ingress and egress, and database deployment.

Some projects will also enhance work produced by the previous cohorts, including expanding on multi-cloud networking (see diagram below for an example of a project deliverable) and building Terraform templates for Jupyterhub deployments.

Cohort participants will collaborate on the projects together using Github with the end goal of creating a robust cloud community equipped to advance research computing on their campuses.

More information, including how and why to reserve your space today, is available on the CLASS Advanced website. For further questions, send us an email at class@internet2.edu. We look forward to seeing you in CLASS!
