Internet2 continues to closely monitor the progress of Hurricane Idalia, following its landfall in Florida Wednesday morning as a Category 3 storm.

According to the National Hurricane Center’s public advisory issued today at 11 a.m. EDT, the center of Idalia is crossing into southern Georgia, and hurricane warnings are in effect for portions of northern Florida, southern Georgia, eastern Georgia, and southeastern South Carolina.

The Internet2 NOC continues to actively monitor and manage network services in anticipation of potential impact and reduced resiliency in the region. As a reminder, an internal NOC ticket has been opened (PRB0051494) to track all Idalia-related activities and to provide a tie-back for member tickets opened as a result of the storm’s potential impact.

Internet2 is closely monitoring the progress of Tropical Storm Idalia, where a hurricane warning has been issued for portions of the Florida Gulf Coast.

According to the National Hurricane Center’s public advisory issued today at 2 p.m. EDT, Idalia is forecast to become a major hurricane before it reaches the Gulf Coast of Florida on Wednesday.

The Internet2 NOC is actively monitoring and managing network services in anticipation of potential impact and reduced resiliency along the Gulf Coast. An internal NOC ticket has been opened (PRB0051494) to track all Idalia-related activities and to provide a tie-back for member tickets opened as a result of the storm’s potential impact.

The Internet2 NOC is reachable 24 hours a day, 365 days a year:

Considering the strength of this storm and the amount of projected rainfall, we may see service impacts throughout the Gulf Coast. Should issues occur, traffic will be rerouted through alternate paths; this could place increased demands on infrastructure in Atlanta and Houston. Internet2 will work diligently with our partners to restore any impacted services as soon as it is safe to do so.

We encourage everyone in the region to follow appropriate local emergency management procedures, heed all warnings, and keep personal safety at the highest level of consideration. As the weather can be unpredictable, we will continue to monitor official forecast sources until the danger associated with the situation has passed.

Our thoughts are with everyone who may be affected by Tropical Storm Idalia.
