SCinet and Internet2’s Contributions

SCinet is anticipated to deliver an incredible 13.72 Tbps of network capacity for SC25, powered by contributions from a wide range of research, education, and industry organizations — including Internet2. Special recognition goes to Nathaniel Mendoza, SC25 SCinet chair and manager of networking, security, and operations for the Texas Advanced Computing Center, along with the hundreds of volunteers and contributors who make SCinet possible.
As a Diamond SCinet Contributor, Internet2 is providing 15 staff volunteers and contributing network ports and capacity expected to total at least 6.8 Tbps. The network contributions will connect SCinet to Internet2’s Large Platform Flex, which includes the Internet2 R&E IP platform, Internet2 Peer Exchange (I2PX) service, and optical system spectrum.
Internet2 is also supporting the SCinet Network Research Exhibition experiments with both spectrum and network capacity. For SC25, that includes four 400 Gbps circuits connecting through Chicago and Kansas City, an 800 Gbps 400 km long-haul coherent optics trial, and a 1.2 Tbps on-ramp to the North America – Research Education Exchange (NA-REX).

For the first time, Internet2 is placing a Managed Dedicated Local Platform (MDLP) router in the SCinet NOC. The MDLP router can be used to dynamically provision private transport and any of Internet2’s network services, leveraging the web-based applications, APIs, and operations support infrastructure developed in collaboration with the community.
Another first is delivering spectrum from Internet2’s transcontinental optical system directly to the booths on the show floor. This delivery leverages multiple interconnected, disaggregated line systems to convey wavelengths directly supporting member network research.
Providing reliable Wi-Fi for thousands of SC attendees is a massive undertaking that SCinet volunteers tackle each year. Among the options available is eduroam, the global Wi-Fi roaming access service for the R&E community. Within the U.S., eduroam is operated by Internet2. Be sure to pre-configure your devices before you travel for a seamless connected experience.
