Dear Internet2 Community,

I am honored and excited to step into the role of Internet2 President and CEO. Internet2’s strength has always been its community-driven innovation, and it is a privilege to lead it into the next chapter.

Recent advances in technology find us in a moment of transformative change for education, research, and indeed, for society in general. The consumption of information is dominated by short-form content like videos, text-based posts, and infographics. Generative AI is poised to fundamentally restructure pedagogical models, research methods, data analysis, governance, and general productivity approaches.

Institutions are faced with pressures to avail themselves of these opportunities and integrate LLMs into their capabilities. Potential breakthroughs in quantum technologies could enhance computing capabilities, enrich digital information transmission through classical and quantum communication methods, and create novel techniques for securing information.

All this is possible with networking technologies that serve as the central nervous system for our interconnected digital civilization. They provide a multiplier effect that accelerates innovation across every sector and enables the discovery of new frontiers, with cloud technologies being leveraged to ensure scalable, global collaboration across all institutions and organizations.

The convergence of these rapid technological changes creates several critical opportunities to strengthen the trust fabric essential for inter-organizational collaboration. Privacy, trust, and security models need to be enhanced to keep up with the growing number of non-human identities, like autonomous AI agents.

The foundation of our strategic imperative is to continue architecting for interoperability, technology-agnostic infrastructure, and federated trust of human and non-human identities. And since science and discovery know no geographic boundaries, this strategy needs to include designing for global-scale, federated research infrastructures. Competitive advantage and progress are driven by both organizational agility and technology adoption. We live in unique times.

One of my immediate priorities is to listen to and engage with our community. I want to hear your perspectives, understand your current needs, learn about the challenges you face, and explore the tremendous opportunities we can pursue together. In the coming months, I plan to spend significant time meeting with our members, collaborators, and stakeholders. While I am still finalizing those details, I hope to set up virtual town halls and meetings.

I welcome your thoughts, ideas, and concerns. Please share them directly with me via email at any time. If you are planning to attend the 2025 Internet2 Technology Exchange in Denver, I look forward to meeting you in person at the event.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support.

Regards,
