Timothy Middelkoop

The full Internet2 Research Engagement team traveled to TechEX22 in Denver, Colo. in December and enjoyed being together at the first major in-person event Internet2 has hosted since 2019.

The team led the first-ever Research Engagement track at TechEX, co-chaired by Sarvani Chadalapaka, director of Cyberinfrastructure and Research Technologies at the University of California Merced, and Barr von Oehsen, associate vice president with the Office of Advanced Research Computing at Rutgers University. They brought together members of the Research Computing and Data (RCD) community and facilitated the exchange of ideas among the various communities supported by Internet2.

Internet2’s Dana Brunson, Lauren Michael, and Timothy Middelkoop presented “How Can We Advance the RCD Profession?”, which focused on the importance of supporting RCD professionals and the roles Internet2, CaRCC, and the RCD Nexus play in that effort. View the presentation slides (Slides 1), as well as “The RCD Ecosystem“, a resource to help people navigate resources available to RCD professionals.

Internet2’s John Hicks also presented with Forough Ghahramani, associate vice president for Research, Innovation, and Sponsored Programs, Edge, Inc., on “Leveraging Cloud – Smaller Institutions” (Slides 2). Many other great Research Engagement presentations and slides are now available for viewing or download in the Research Engagement track.

As a group, it was great to see our ability to reach new people and communities. We look forward to seeing you May 8-11 at the 2023 Internet2 Community Exchange in Atlanta, Ga., where we will be presenting a session on “Research IT Strategic Planning” for campus IT leadership.
