Dear Internet2 Community,
As he announced today, Howard Pfeffer has made the personal decision that he will be retiring after almost eight years of leadership as President and Chief Executive Officer of Internet2. During his tenure, Howard has developed our member-led organization nationally and internationally to ensure the advancement of technology infrastructure and services to meet the research and education needs of our members. We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude for his exceptional leadership and dedication. Howard’s vision and commitment have been instrumental in evolving our infrastructure and services, developing our organization, and strengthening our community relationships. These contributions will have a lasting impact on our community.
As we look to the future, the Board is confident that Internet2 will continue to innovate and build on its success in delivering quality services to our community. The strong team developed under Howard’s leadership will continue to deliver exceptional and evolving technology services for our higher education community.
To ensure a smooth transition to a new President and Chief Executive Officer, the Board has initiated activities to conduct a national search. Cynthia Larive, Internet2 Vice Chair and Chancellor of University of California Santa Cruz, has agreed to lead this search. Activities have commenced to identify a search committee and an executive recruitment firm to assist in this process. We will provide an update on these specific activities in the next few weeks and are committed to ongoing communication throughout the process. During this period, comments or questions can be directed to board-inquiries@internet2.edu.
Once again, we are grateful for Howard’s contributions to Internet2 during his leadership period and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
Sincerely,
Greg Washington
President, George Mason University and Internet2 Board Chair
