Six higher education institutions worked together to vet Globus service features and functionality, negotiate terms and pricing, and champion future product enhancements on behalf of the research and education (R&E) community. Their work resulted in a solid addition to the NET+ service portfolio.
For more information about the Globus platform, please refer to our Internet2 Cloud Scorecard Directory, which provides a summary of how cloud services such as Globus attest to meet the accessibility, security, technical, and contractual requirements of the R&E community.
Globus, a service operated by the University of Chicago, is a platform that provides advanced data management and computation capabilities to researchers, research computing managers, IT groups, and developers.
We’re excited for you to hear from your peers about how they brought a new NET+ service to the community. Join us for a webinar on Jan. 30 at 2 p.m. ET to explore this new offering.
The webinar will feature Sam Porter, associate director of Research Technology, and Kevin M. Hildebrand, HPC architect for the Division of IT from the University of Maryland. They will discuss the collaborative process that brought this new service to the NET+ portfolio.
You will also hear from Globus as its representatives outline the pricing and terms of the agreement. We’ll also have time for Q&A. We hope you’ll join us!
NET+ Globus Service Evaluation
The NET+ Service Evaluation process for Globus is now complete. You can read the NET+ Globus Service Evaluation Report on the NET+ Globus program wiki.
Throughout the NET+ Service Evaluation process, participating institutions, some of which are current users of the service, provided feedback on the product and posed questions for the Globus team to help develop a program that would meet the specific needs of the R&E community with higher ed-vetted terms and competitive pricing.
“Purchasing and implementing new IT services in higher ed comes with a variety of challenges that are often best addressed collaboratively. These challenges include approaches to change management and support, ensuring services are accessible to all our campus community, and verifying that services are secure,” Porter said.
“The NET+ Globus Service Evaluation process enables the community to benefit from the expertise and experiences of multiple institutions collectively. The evaluation team — facilitated by Internet2 — worked directly with Globus to address questions about features, functionality, and security and compliance, and we had an opportunity to demo the product and provide input about new features that would be useful.”
