What is eduroam and How Does It Work?

eduroam (eduroam roaming) is a federated authentication service that enables seamless, secure Wi-Fi access. With eduroam, eligible research and education campuses can provide guests from other participating institutions with access to their Wi-Fi networks. They can also empower their own communities to connect effortlessly wherever eduroam is available.

In the U.S., eduroam is operated by Internet2’s Trust & Identity Division. With more than 1,165 subscribing
institutions and 3,400 hotspots nationwide, eduroam connects millions of students, educators, researchers, and staff. They open their laptops and other devices and seamlessly connect wherever eduroam is available.
