Cloud Connect is available to higher education institutions, affiliate members of Internet2, and regional and state networks. The service makes it easier for researchers to access and use cloud resources. It is part of a full set of Internet2 Networking for the Cloud solutions that support science, collaboration, the academic enterprise, and the ever-present migration to the cloud across the research and education community.
Cloud Connect service subscribers can use the Internet2 Insight Console Virtual Networks feature to create and modify connections to AWS Direct Connect, Google Partner Interconnect, Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute, and Oracle FastConnect.
Through Virtual Networks, regional and state networks and campus subscribers can create connections of up to 5 Gbps in four cities across the country, including Ashburn, Virginia; Chicago, Illinois; Dallas, Texas; and San Jose, California. (Oracle FastConnect is available in Ashburn, Dallas, and San Jose). Efforts are underway to expand the Cloud Connect service to all seven Internet2 interconnect sites, with Los Angeles, California; Newark, New Jersey; and Seattle, Washington coming soon. In addition to the Cloud Connect service, Internet2 provides more than 800 gigabits per second of public peering capacity through its Internet2 Peer Exchange (I2PX) service for institutions that do not require a private network connection to the cloud.
