University of Washington's Bob Morgan Receives Internet2 President's Leadership Award
Award acknowledges Morgan's commitment to the research and education community
Arlington, VA—April 24, 2012—R.L. "Bob" Morgan, an identity and access management architect at the University of Washington, was honored today with the Internet2 President's Leadership Award. The award recognizes individuals from Internet2's membership for their exemplary service for the benefit of the national and global research and education community. The award was presented to him before nearly 800 attendees at the Spring 2012 Internet2 Member Meeting.
"Throughout his career, Bob has been a consummate professional with a steadfast commitment to strengthening network services among the higher education and technology community," said Dave Lambert, chief executive officer and president of Internet2. "As we continue to reshape and discover new services on behalf of the Internet2 and its partners, we will continue to draw upon Bob's expertise and his example in the important work we do as we move our mission forward."
"Much of the success of the Internet2 middleware work is due to it leveraging the remarkable expertise of the people in the community," said Ken Klingenstein, director of the Internet2 Middleware and Security Initiative. "Among those smart people have been a few who have added wisdom to the mix. And among those precious few wise folks, there has been one who provides the light to it all. That one person is R.L. 'Bob' Morgan."
Nominees are selected by the Internet2 executive leadership team based on the their participation in strategic programs across all areas of the Internet2 network and their demonstrated "above and beyond" leadership that substantially supports the mission of Internet2 and the community.
For more than 20 years, Morgan has designed and deployed advanced identity management systems in support of higher education and research on local, national and international levels. Prior to joining the University of Washington in 1999, he held a similar position at Stanford University. Since its inception in 1999, Bob has served as chair of the Middleware Architecture Council for Education, a U.S.-based international group of identity management architects providing guidance for the Internet2 Middleware Initiative.
